Dear David,
As I was busy in talking to my mother yesterday afternoon, can you imagine what was to me the most pleasant surprise of the day? It was father’s voice calling me loudly and the delivery of a small parcel by the peon. When I saw the expression ‘Birthday Present written on the top of the parcel and your name and address on the left of mine, my heart was filled with sorrow and surprise. I was sorry because I could not invite you on my birthday for the reason that I did not know your new address. I was surprised because I found that you had not forgotten my birthday and remembered me in that way. What a kind soul you are and how thoughtful, too!
On opening the parcel I was all the more surprised. A new fountain pen, Parkar 61, is just the thing I have longed for some time because my old one has not been giving me good service and very often I thought of buying a new one. I wonder how you could hit upon the right thing for me.
I have had several other nice presents on this occasion, but none that I value so much as yours. The pen, I expect, will be one of my life-long companions and will bring me the best of luck as you wish.
We all felt your absence yesterday and are expecting you next Sunday.
With my best love to you and with renewed thanks for so lovely and valuable a present,
ADDRESS
Yours sincerely
Suresh
